The Stanley Thompson Collection

An agreement with The University of Guelph Library & Archives is in place for the archiving, restoration and preservation of Stanley Thompson Society plans, notes, contracts, photos, memorabilia, etc. collected to date and in the future (Stanley Thompson attended the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph).

An endowment trust funded by the Stanley Thompson Society and other much appreciated private benefactors is an integral part of the agreement and ensures preservation and retention of archived materials ad infinitum.

Thompson golf courses, relations and friends who may come across Thompson items of note are encouraged to contact the Stanley Thompson Society ( to discuss restoration, preservation and archiving at the University as part of the Stanley Thompson Society Collection.

Access to the Stanley Thompson Collection

Society members and other parties interested in Thompson information are welcome to visit the University of Guelph for viewing of the Stanley Thompson Collections. You can search the online database of the University of Guelph Collection here. 

Periodically pieces of the University’s Stanley Thompson Society Collection will be made available for shows and exhibitions with authorized written permission and a guarantee of environmental control.

Reproductions of Thompson archival materials will be on display at permanent sites in both eastern and western Canada. Presently agreements are in place with the Guelph Turfgrass Institute/GM Frost Research & Information Centre in Guelph Ontario and at Olds College in Olds, Alberta outside Calgary, to host modest displays.

The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame/Golf Canada Archives also hold some materials on Stanley Thompson, including his war medals and citation. The Interactive Course History Map may also assist in your research.
