STS 'Provenance' Study

A new initiative, one fundamental to the Society and Thompson clubs is the authentication of true Thompson facilities. This important 'provenance' study program is being achieved through a scholarship and research funding grant to University of Guelph. The Society is pleased to announce that graduate student and CPGA member Kirsten Brown plus faculty experts in the field Dr. Cecelia Paine and Sean Kelly have been selected to develop classification and assessment models for Thompson courses as per initial design, modifications over time & current status.

Stanley Thompson Scholarships & Awards

At the present time scholarship and award funds have been allocated to the Provenance & Authentication Study at the University of Guelph.

Annually at the discretion of the Stanley Thompson Society’s Board of Directors, “Thompson Scholarship” awards may be made available to deserving applicants, both attending school and outside acedemia.

Potential applicants will be enrolled in a full time golf related study at a recognized College or University. Related fields include landscape architecture or design, turf management, golf management, golf professional, civil, land, water resource engineering, environmental science, etc.

As well, non-academic “Scholarship” funding may be made available to candidates outside academia pursuing a personal project or undertaking which furthers the preservation, archiving, enhancement of the Stanley Thompson Society pursuits and objectives.

At the annual discretion of the STS Board, a Thompson “Award of Distinction” may be made to individuals or organizations, working in the field of Thompson golf, deserving of merit and distinction for their dedication and exemplary efforts in the preservation of Thompson courses. Nominations for this prestigious award are welcomed from Society members. This award does not have monetary value.
